For centuries, Japanese women have worn long hair... They were not shaved under any circumstances, although it was not easy to look after them. In those days, the hair was washed once a month, but the hair was carefully looked after daily, combing with a comb and using aromatic oils.

Geisha behavior and movements
The silhouette of a geisha was associated with a willow tree swaying in the wind.... It was this moment that the ancient artists tried to convey by all means, depicting flying clouds and curving branches of flowering trees next to the geisha. Geisha developed perfect posture and graceful gait through the discipline of body and spirit.
To make the gait light and flexible, when walking, the toes of the feet were directed straight forward, and not turned to the sides or inward. It was necessary to step first on the heel, then on the toe. The girls learned to walk along two lines marked with a cord at a distance of about 5 cm apart.
Steps shouldn't have been big, but, moving quickly and rhythmically, the geisha managed to demonstrate the whiteness of her feet in the swinging hem of her kimono. She could show the attractiveness of her body completely hidden by her clothes both in movement and by freezing in an elegant pose.
Wearing a kimono with a tight belt at the waist ensured that it would be kept straight. She had to stand a lot in uncomfortable shoes, but she never forgot to bend one leg, putting the other back or to the side, which gave her figure those graceful outlines for which geisha were compared to young willows.
