Verbatim androgens - "male sex hormones", but this name is not entirely accurate, since they are produced in both the male and female body. The only difference is in the amount of hormones. In the male body, androgens are produced much more, because they are formed not only in the adrenal cortex, but also in the male gonads — the testes.
Estrogens - these are also not purely female hormones. Their amount is also determined in the male body. Consequently, the differences characteristic of the male and female body are not associated with differences in the nature of sex hormones, but with the ratio of their amount.
An important feature of androgens and estrogens is their effect on the central nervous system. This largely explains the characteristics of behavior, psyche, etc., characteristic of males and females, which are expressively found during puberty. In particular, sexual development in both sexes is associated with the influence of androgens on the central nervous system.
For the normal passage of puberty for a girl, full functioning of all components of neuroendocrine regulation is necessary - the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and other peripheral endocrine glands.
Violation of their function also leads to violations of puberty - by the timing of its onset (premature or delayed), by the rate (stormy or, on the contrary, prolonged), by the development of individual signs (although in the latter case, sensitivity to hormones of different body tissues is important : the same amount of the hormone causes different changes in different adolescents).
This is how, it turns out, male sex hormones are associated with representatives of the opposite sex.
